This strategic project aims to develop and apply new, more effective approaches to forecasting the future in the face of rapid change and growing technological opportunities. In particular, it is planned to significantly extend the range of quantitative and qualitative methods based on the use of various kinds of data.
The new approaches will be tested on a wide range of practically oriented predictive studies focused on various aspects and areas of life, the economy, and society.
HSE University’s background in scientific forecasting, its advanced research infrastructure (including the iFORA big data mining system and the university’s supercomputer) provide a unique basis for the successful implementation of this strategic project.
Wide dissemination of the project’s results in the global academic and professional communities will promote Russia’s participation in drafting the long-term agenda for international science, technology, and socio-economic development.
Promoting strategic foresight culture in Russia based on regularly assessing global challenges and trends, as well as identifying promising long-term development options.
Developing advanced forecasting methods and models, scaling them to match various application areas, and widely disseminating them in other universities through a system of educational programmes and trainings.
Contributing to achieving the national goals of preserving people’s health and well-being, creating opportunities for self-realisation and talent development, and ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment.
Building information infrastructure and interdisciplinary tools for science, technology, and socio-economic forecasting
Launching and maintaining a platform for monitoring global challenges, technological and social trends, science frontiers, weak signals, the emergence of new markets and products
Producing a series of long-term forecasts to build a comprehensive vison of the future; setting medium- and long-term priorities for the development of science and technology, sectors of the economy, social innovations, and institutions; and assessing the scale of upcoming changes and their social, economic, environmental, and geopolitical effects
